TH-U is essentially just an update to TH3 rather than an entirely new plugin. I do think that if you front load your signal and use eq that Amp4 sounds like a record. You can control the zoom and general layout of things to customize your workflow a bit for different uses but if you zoom out too much, the text on the components can be tough to read. With Amplitube 4 you still get a large range of different amplifiers and stomp boxes to mix and match, however, if you’re looking for something more then IKM’s Custom Shop allows you to buy extra amplifiers and pedals. We review every piece of guitar software being offered on the market today by today's standards. Comes with a substantial collection of useful presets. The typical JCM 800 would produce more saturation (drive) than a typical standard plexi. Now it’s up to Amplitube 4 and like a lot of designers IKM offers you several different bundles based around a core product. Also I can profile my own amps with the kemper and have those sounds on tap ready to work with at the punch of a button, so that's an added bonus. It’s a plugin that makes chasing down the specific tone for every job easy for any user. For me, Overloud is a name I trust and when I see the name, I trust the product based on my past experiences with the company. Way back in 1998 Line 6’s original Pod processor was revolutionary in the high quality of sounds it produced without a heavy, loud guitar amp in sight. No sim will ever sound like standing in the room with your amp, but it's not designed to, it's designed to sound like your rig, mic'd up for recording. Have the first IR be one of your IRs, the second slaved to the first, or no second, or a completely different IR. The DVMark amps were not really my thing but I did manage some very musical and resonant jazz tones with a couple of them. Anyone using the new SVT AMP? Glad you found one you get on with :). The pedals and processing components included in TH-U are also very high quality for a full amp suite like this. I've tried Bias (overrated IMO), Amplitube (pretty good), Guitar Rig (lol) and a few of the decent freeware plugins and impulse loaders out there. My final thought on the Rig Player is that it’s very cool, practical and convenient but the amps inside TH-U are much better and more useful. Simple modelers that are decent are S-Gear, Mercurial, Thermionik. They add a lot of their own processing inside the plugin for those not wanting to mess with too much of it on their own. For example 5-6 rig packs = the cost of a high level amp sim suite. Every component carries it’s weight without needing outside processing to provide useful tones. one of the best (and underrated) gtr/bass emulation! The TH line is well-known at this point and needs no further introduction, but in case you’re not that much of an amp sim aficionado let’s recap what it is all about and also have a look at the new features: TH-U Rig Player - Framus Red Clean.mp3 (2.86 MB, 6005 views), TH-U Rig Player - Overloud Custom Clean.mp3 (2.85 MB, 5879 views), TH-U Lab 5 Clean - Brazilian Music.mp3 (1.98 MB, 5906 views), TH-U - Uni Vibrato Preset - Rock.mp3 (1.62 MB, 5873 views), TH-U Death Black Metal.mp3 (2.20 MB, 6023 views). I love opening them up and just spending a day or two just going through all the fun components and things that have been included. For me, Overloud is a name I trust and when I see the name, I trust the product based on my past experiences with the company. The convenience factor is through the damn roof but unlike some products that sacrifice quality for it, TH-U is not one of them. If you are a TH3 user, I would enthusiastically suggest the upgrade. It adds new amps, cabs, pedals, the Rig Player, an impulse response loader and a lot more. To me, that implies that the built-in cabs are the weakest link. Helix Native is full featured like TH3 but too expensive and no discernible improvement. Different strokes for different folks. Its actually pretty cheap considering the package. Boost, OD, distortion, delay, reverb, modulation and a crazy long list of very useful components are readily available to drag and drop right into any signal chain at any time. Line 6 progressed over the years to make virtual amp modelling software like Pod Farm available to its customers, but until recently you still needed Line 6 hardware to use it. 18 microphone models with flexible 3D positioning of up to four mics per cabinet. View all posts by Honest Amp Sim Reviews. There is just a seemingly endless amount of cool stuff to work with but I am a quality over quantity guy when it comes to full amp suites. With its 239 models, 1000 presets and more than 4000 captured Rigs, TH-U offers the largest collection of sounds on iOS, ever! Overloud updates their successful amp simulator and adds a number of meaningful features. This beats everything else I’ve heard in terms of lead tones, metal and any type of more heavy tones on amp plugins. Some of the pedals could use a bit of a graphic touch up but the quality is definitely there. I can only use the POD stuff for knocking out quick riffs when Im trying to write and put stuff together. All sims sound like garbage. All the above standalone plug-ins require that you have a reasonable computer (some cheap laptops might struggle) and some kind of audio interface. Ya know man, i clicked on the link, saw the price, and just kept walkin. This is probably an impossible task, the guitar tones from that album are some of my favourite tones ever, but I think I managed to get a bit closer at least. The scope: Overloud presents the latest iteration of their successful TH amp simulation platform, and after TH-3 here comes TH-U, bringing a number of meaningful auditions and improvements over previous versions. I forget, would a jcm800 be otherwise known as a plexi? I also hope with confidence that all of these Rig Packs will be backwards compatible when the next version of TH-U comes out down the road just as Toontrack did for Superior Drummer 2 users when SD3 came out. The only profiles that users can use in the Rig Player are the ones being sold by Overloud. Plus it provides both stomp pedal and rack-mount modules that can be inserted into multiple signal chains… yes, things can get pretty crazy. The Lynch Box sims sound truthfully great and they are a ton of fun to go through. You have to hand it to Peavey with its latest version 4 of the ReValver software. I may have bought Amplitube 4 instead but there was a no trial available. If you’re already getting a headache just thinking about that, TH3 has over 1000 presets included to work your way through before trying to build any virtual rigs of your own. Is Digital Amp modeling the future of guitar tone? Amongst all of what seemed to be "thousands" of demos covering the major brands, I found a few videos of the little red Amplifire. The tones are for the most part crisp and edit fairly nicely across the board. Well done! Well worth a demo download to anyone reading this thread who might be interested. The CPU is also INSANELY low all things considered. Its so much more liberating to transition to an all 64bit setup though. Press question mark to learn the rest of the keyboard shortcuts. But if your used to playing though a real tube amp everyday, you start to FEEL the difference between the different amp sims. The Randall amps are my next stop and again I am greeted by quality. Btw, thanks for the th3 recommendation, I was using the bias fx demo for a while but the interface needs so much work to bring it to modern standards. I'm guessing you're not using S-Gear to its max capabilities. They’ll never sound real.” vs… “I need software because I can’t make noise at home and now guitar amp simulators sound as good as the real thing.” I dont know...i got TH3 for $162 not on sale, no upgrade price, nothing....Amplitube wants $299 for their comparable package and has way less amps, cabs, mics, fx, ect. With the IRs and the ability to add your own IRs, (or IRs from redwirez, ownhammer) you can do all sorts of things to shape the tone you're getting much along the same lines as amplitube. I was amazed at how little it was using even with a longer signal chain that utilized more components. What’s interesting is that IKM now licenses the use of famous equipment, so you know exactly what you’re buying, whereas back in the ol’ days it could only hint at the gear being simulated with presets named like “Jimi in the Wind” and “Get The Edge”. The selection of boost pedals could be a bit larger given the modern day reliance on them. At the time when i got A-gear there was no alternatives for clean/mellow/creamy overdriven amp modellers that sounded and feeled good to play. Try them out! Over a thousand presets organized on intuitively named banks with search function for both presets and banks. Overloud has a long history of making some of the best plugins in the game. We let you know what the newest and best stuff is while also finding out which older plugins are still competing. I found that when I turned knobs too far right or left from the center point, the quality would suffer a little bit which does show a possible limitation for some regarding the Rig Player feature. Cookies help us deliver our Services. It sure blew away my Line 6 POD Farm stuff. I’d actually say that not upgrading is doing yourself a disservice. Is there a community of th3 users that shares presets? If you have guitar related questions, use the "Search" field or ask the community. I was about 70/30 like to dislike with my favorites being the Marcus II, Lab 5 Clean, Lab 5 Dist, Prog, Rhythm, Plexi and Darkface 65. Demoing it...EXTREMELY light on cpu and hell i might buy it for the guitar to bass preset alone. They all sound too fizzy and lack tightness etc. Don’t be fooled by the simple name, “TH3”. Any suggestions on this front? Brainworx recently released a SVT sim for UAD. The quality is pretty good and the controls have value across all the components. I am used to the pedals providing only some of the usual characteristics of the real deal but Overloud ensures that there’s a ton of high quality stomps and processing to choose from. Overloud is another developer that’s licensed the use of famous hardware — in this case the boutique brands of guitar amps Randall, DVmark and Brunetti, which are sort of the musical equivalent of expensive sports cars with a super-model waiting for you in the passenger seat. great update! Here is a link to a Metallica preset posted on the forum: https://www.scuffhamamps.com/forum/9-presets/8260-metallica-tone. Now, go and crank up some virtual amplifiers and make some noise. Overloud has a long history of making some of the best plugins in the game. Many of TH-U’s components outside of the amps and cabs will work for both guitar and bass but they weren’t necessarily designed with bass in mind. By themselves And in mixes they can fool me with others work but not with my own unfortunately and not just because I know they are sims.. they lack the depth and tonal balance of my amps. It’s a guitar amplifier modelling program that has an enormous range of amplifiers, effects, cabinets, microphones… the list goes on. Odd to me that know one has commented on this Plug TH3 I was waiting for a response and nothing for days so in Gearslutz fashion I pulled the trigger and from what little i have used it it seems really GOOD and I have a lot of SIMS.
